Thursday, May 25

9:18 a.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a La Plata County misdemeanor charge.

10:33 a.m.: A woman reported a bicycle theft in the 200 block of East Third Street. She said her son’s uninsured dirt bike had been taken from her property sometime between May 14 and May 24 while the family was out of town. The case remains under investigation.

1:10 p.m.: A man was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of possessing alcohol in the park and on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

2:14 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Montezuma Avenue on suspicion of menacing with a deadly weapon and underage consumption of alcohol. Witnesses claimed he had been swinging a pocket knife at another man. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication.

2:31 p.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees said a man and a woman had taken a variety of food and hygiene items and an electronic drone, valued at $161.26 total. They said the couple had pushed their shopping cart outside without paying and, when confronted by loss prevention employees, had run away, leaving the items behind. The case remains under investigation.

3:08 p.m.: A man was cited for a dog at large violation and failure to license a dog at Denny Lake Park, 2825 E. Main St.

Friday, May 26

7:23 p.m.: A woman was arrested at City Park, 802 E. Main St., on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges, after she repeatedly tried to give police false names.

9:35 p.m.: A man was arrested at Fiesta Mexicana, 2604 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after police responded to a report of a meal skip at the restaurant.

10:23 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony.

Saturday, May 27

3:02 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 40 block of East Main Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace and interfering with an officer. Police responded to reports that he was running up and down the street shouting profanities and threats. When they caught up to him, he had a large open cut on his forehead and reportedly shouted at the responding officers before attempting to run away. An officer pulled him onto the sidewalk, resulting in another cut on his head. The man’s injuries were treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital before he was taken to jail.

3:08 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons in the 1200 block of North Edith Street on suspicion of a dog at large violation and ownership of a dangerous dog after witnesses reported the animal attempted to attack several people in the neighborhood.

Sunday, May 28

3:06 p.m.: A man reported a possible stolen license plate at City Market, 508 E. Main St. The case remains under investigation.

6:14 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 10 block of South Broadway on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor.

8:05 p.m.: A man was arrested outside Blondie’s Trophy Room, 45 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor.

9:25 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of false imprisonment and domestic violence after witnesses reported he was yelling at his girlfriend and not allowing her to leave the bedroom.

10:13 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 2800 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI, weaving and an open container violation after police responded to a report that he had swerved into oncoming traffic and forced another vehicle off the road. Two dogs were found in his vehicle at the time of the incident, and they were taken to the Cortez Animal Shelter.

11:31 p.m.: A man was arrested at Denny’s, 2059 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing after a witness claimed he had pointed a gun at him when he entered the bathroom and saw him drinking there. When police contacted the man, they did not find a firearm in his possession, but an officer later found a BB gun he believed to be his.

11:55 p.m.: A woman and two men were arrested in the 300 block of North Edith Street. The woman was arrested on suspicion of violating bond conditions and violating a protection order, and on two warrants for failure to comply from Montezuma and La Plata counties. One of the men was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear or pay a fine, and the other on warrants for failure to appear and failure to register as a sex offender. All three refused to open the door of the house where they were found, leading the officers to kick the door open.

Monday, May 29

11:04 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of North Mildred Road on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

3:52 p.m.: A man was arrested near the intersection of South Ash and Second Streets on two warrants for failure to appear on local felony charges.

4:35 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 900 block of East Driscoll Street on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge after he was pulled over for speeding.

6:07 p.m.: A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed they had taken a backpack and a bottle of pineapple juice, among other items, after the woman tried to distract staff by asking them for help finding her daughter. The woman was also arrested on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

Tuesday, May 30

7:07 a.m.: A woman turned herself in at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being booked into the jail, due to having consumed two sleeping pills and some marijuana before turning herself in.
