Well! Would you believe that we reached (unofficially) -10 degrees Monday night? Interesting, though, that Denver has been experiencing colder temperatures than our area lately, and we live at nearly 9,000 feet!
Our three days of Noel Night over the weekend ushered in the meaningful excitement of the Christmas season. What really surprised me was that Santa flew down for a quick visit to Rico to see how the children were conducting themselves. Weve got good kiddos here in our little town and I know Santa was impressed, because they had just completed decorating the huge 40-foot live Christmas tree down in front of the school building. Our friends at San Miguel Power brought over one of their line trucks with a bucket that goes up and down above the truck, and that made it possible to decorate that beautiful tree for the first time. Up and down, up and down went the bucket it must have made whoever was placing the lights on the tree very dizzy! The children then hung ornaments up as high as they could reach, and the project was complete. For one moment, we wondered if the Christmas lights would come on. Breathlessly we watched in wonderment as the tree came alive with a glow as multiple colors lit the tree. I must add that there were some very cold hands when they were finished.
We all thank San Miguel Power for this extra effort to do something like this for our community. We know that they help other communities also. Im wondering just who in our community planted that big, beautiful tree in front of the school some 40 years ago. The elementary school was built, I think, in the 1950s. Glen, do you know who planted it? Glen knows so much about Rico!
We had a full house in the gallery room at the Burley building. Best bazaar ever! Beautiful Christmas wreaths, metal works, Tiffany-style leaded glass lamp shades, Junes glass work, a full table of collectibles from Argentina, Russia and other exciting places around the world. I shouldnt have mentioned this, for I cannot fairly mention everyone there. There were so many things and people! Perhaps next Noel Night, 2012!
Jim Ferando of Rico and Albuquerque is in town checking on the house and finding a nice tree for the family to enjoy for their after-Christmas holiday.
