Dear Editor:
In response to Lavena Snyder and others: I am not from and have never lived in California. I do not have an agenda for this recall other than the desire to have ethical and accountable persons deciding how my tax dollars are spent. I am not running for city council. The recall committee is made up of average citizens. We are not a political committee. No developers are part of the recall, although some do support the effort, as they own businesses and property in Cortez and pay city taxes and do have a vested interest in what happens in the city. The lawsuit the developers have with the city has no bearing on the recall. It was at federal level long before the recall was initiated and it makes no difference who is sitting on city council.
How can the city possibly describe giving a piece of property to Flaugh and then buying it back with our tax dollars amenities? The grievous actions of these council members were unknown at the time that they were voted in I myself voted for some of them. Our Constitution provides us the right to remove persons from office when they are not acting in the best interest of the citizens. We want an elected council that is responsible to the people.
The facts show that the council members up for recall have not done their due diligence, consistently fail to respond to the concerns of citizens, and are not spending our tax dollars wisely. Painted bike lanes are nice, but wasting over $325,000 on a road to nowhere is inexcusable. Maybe people have not returned their campaign petitions because city officials, including council members, have unethically called and discouraged them from running.
