To say thank you to those that have contributed to the well being of “Asher,” the orphaned foal at this year’s Spring Creek Basin roundup, wouldn’t be enough. The support from everyone has been overwhelming, and I don’t know quite how to express my gratitude. Because of human interference he was orphaned, but because of human dedication he was rescued. Although we’re not out of the woods yet, things are looking very good.

Thank you to National Mustang Association, Colorado, for the generous donations towards Asher’s milk powder replacement. Thank you to Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen for your monetary donation; Medicine Horse for donating the use of a blanket to get us through this cold winter; the LEOs that spotted this little guy, and the cowboys and pilot for helping rescue him from his out of bounds situation; all BLM, specifically Jim and Wayne, for allowing Asher to be brought home for his best chances at survival; Lyn Rowley, for driving two hours at the drop of a hat with the horse trailer to get this little guy home and to the vet; Sue Grabbe, Four Corners MASH, for donating your lifesaving measures late that night when Asher was not in the best shape. Thank you to those that have offered help and to those that understand the need. Special thanks to my husband, for not hesitating when I called in a panic that a foal was displaced and needed a home, not even questioning how we were going to do it, and to my daughter for holding vigil with me that first couple of nights. Lastly, (certainly not least), thank you to T.J. Holmes and Pati and David Temple for having the faith in me that I was worthy of this task, and for the endless hours of support via phone and email!

This incredible journey I could not have been on without the help of everyone named and those unnamed. People surprise me all the time, and this has been no different. I always tell everyone, stop in anytime and see for yourself how the little guy is coming along.

I’d also like to thank all of the volunteers that contributed their time at the adoption this year. You know who you are! A special thanks goes to Curt and Barb Henderson of Mesa Verde Motel for the donation of all drinks for our booth, and to Sue and Four Corners MASH for the donation of the candy bars. Every penny raised helped our local Spring Creek Basin mustangs in some way.
