Governor to sign education bill at Fort Lewis College

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will sign House Bill 17-1003, “Strategic Plan to Address Teacher Shortages,” at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, May 21, at Fort Lewis College on the rooftop observatory, Room 710, of Sitter Family Hall.

Attendance is open to the public, though space is limited.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Barbara McLachlan, D-Durango, and Sen. Don Coram, R-Montrose, “requires the Department of Higher Education in partnership with the Department of Education to examine recruitment, preparation and retention of teachers and to prepare a strategic plan to address teacher shortages in school districts and public schools within the state,” according to the Colorado General Assembly website.
