“The Secret Lives of the Divine” show will be at the Millwood Junction on April 16 and will benefit the Painted Turtle Studio in Mancos.

The incomparable Sarah Syverson will perform her one-woman, 12-character comedy show entitled “The Secret Lives of the Divine.” Benefitting Painted Turtle Studio, the performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Millwood Junction Restaurant, 101 Railroad Ave., Mancos.

“I know from my own experience that spiritual seekers can be very serious, determined and goal-oriented, and we forget to loosen up and laugh at our humanness. That essential laughter opens us up and brings us back to a place of joy, peace and understanding of the truth of it all. That is what this show is all about — uplifting and enlivening the audience through a humorous and poignant look at our human foibles and our greatest aspirations.”

Each character that Syverson brings to life portrays an entertaining, yet deeply and uniquely poignant interaction with the cosmos, from 8-year-old Henry, who’s battling witches living under his bed, to Jamal, an Indian Guru who’s working for Qwest to pay the ashram bills, to the 65-year-old Stella, a Jewish lady attending her first Zen retreat. Stella is the link among the various characters, and Sarah brilliantly reveals Stella’s evolution and transformation as she begins to yield to the divine within.

Syverson lives in Mancos and has performed “The Secret Lives of the Divine” in Boulder, Durango and Crestone. She is delighted to have the opportunity to perform the show as a benefit for Painted Turtle Studio in Mancos. Proceeds will benefit art education programs, a scholarship fund and an outdoor art space at PTS – Mancos’ Community Art Center.

Tickets are available in advance at Painted Turtle Studio and Zuma Natural Foods in Mancos, Dolores Food Market in Dolores, Spruce Tree Coffeehouse in Cortez, and Maria’s Bookshop in Durango. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. More information can be found at www.sarahsyverson.com or on The Painted Turtle Studio website at www.paintedturtlestudio.org or by calling 533-7136.
