Toh-Atin Galleries owner to speak at Cortez Library

Literary Fridays at the Library hosts H. Jackson Clark II, an owner of Toh-Atin Galleries of Durango, at 10 a.m. at the Cortez Public Library on May 19.

Clark is the third generation of his family’s Native American trading business. Clark traveled the Navajo reservation with his father, visiting trading posts and weavers and after two decades in the business, is considered an expert on Navajo weaving and regularly gives presentations on Native American art at conferences, museum gatherings and gallery showings.

Clark is a founding member and former officer of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association and a graduate of the University of Colorado. His presentations are about the history, art and stories of the people who he and his family have known. He examines the Navajos’ culture, art, homeland and their struggles as well as their humor and beliefs that have brought them proudly into the 21st century.
