FRIDAY, OCT. 14

Ÿ An officer was dispatched to Walmart for a report of a juvenile shoplifter(s) who were observed taking a Playstation controller and an X-Box video game from the electronics department. They took the items to the grocery side of the store and removed the items from the packaging. One boy concealed the controller in the front pocket of his sweatshirt; the other concealed the game under his shirt. When they attempted to leave the store via the west exit, one boy was contacted by store security and the controller was retrieved. The other boy continued out the exit and dropped the game in a flower display on his way out of the store. The second boy was also detained, and their parents were called. After their parents arrived, the older boy was issued a summons for shoplifting, and the younger one was informed of the juvenile diversion process. They were released to the custody of their parents.

Ÿ An officer responded to a residence for a report of trespassing and assault. The reporting party told the officer that he and his girlfriend had been sleeping in their bed when they were awakened when two females came into the room and began yelling at them and hitting them. The male felt that this may have stemmed from an incident that happened two weeks ago when an acquaintance said that he had left money in his car and wanted it back, and got angry when the reporting party denied there was money left in the car. He recognized one of the suspects who struck him in the face with a closed fist and was able to give the officer the female’s name. The reporting party’s girlfriend told the officer that the unidentified second female suspect grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the mouth with a closed fist, and that this occurred when she interfered with the suspect’s attempt to steal her laptop computer. The suspect was described as thin, with blonde hair and glasses. The girlfriend’s cell phone was also stolen. Officers are attempting to locate the suspects at their known address. A warrant is being obtained for the arrest of the identified female suspect, and the unknown female assailant is being identified.

SUNDAY, OCT. 16

Ÿ An officer responded to a local hotel in reference to damage to a vehicle. The owner of the vandalized car, who works for the hotel, showed the officer that both of the front quarter panels, both doors, and both rear quarter panels had been keyed. The hood also had been damaged where someone had scratched “Ha ha” into it. The reporting party provided the name of a possible suspect, a hotel co-worker whom she does not get along with. The co-worker was there swimming the night that the damage occurred. Though no one saw the co-worker around her vehicle, it was the opinion of the car’s owner that the letters scratched into the hood resembled the co-worker’s handwriting. The officer spoke with the possible suspect, who denied causing the damage and told the officer that she didn’t know who did it, but that there are a lot of people who work at the hotel that don’t like the reporting party and it could have been anyone.

TUESDAY, OCT. 18

Ÿ An officer was requested to respond to a report of property damage, and advised that the two involved males had been seen running southbound from the scene, one wearing a black T-shirt, the other wearing a tan T-shirt. The officer observed two male teenagers walking; both were wearing tank tops and carrying a T-shirt matching the description from witnesses in their hands. After contacting them, the officer noted that they were out of breath and perspiring heavily. The officer spoke with them about the incident where they were observed throwing a rock at a parked vehicle. Both males were intoxicated. The older male was charged with criminal mischief, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, and underage consumption; both males were left in the care and custody of county detention center staff.

Ÿ An officer responded to a shoplifting call at Handy Mart. An employee there identified a male wearing a green plaid shirt, and said he had left and was walking southbound on South Broadway. The employee had observed the suspect at one of the refrigerators stuff something into his pants; he then paid for a milk with cash, and then ran out of the business. The officer reviewed the surveillance video and observed the suspect steal a 15 ounce Starbucks brand double-shot vanilla flavored coffee drink. The suspect was recognized as a frequent customer. Police will be notified next time he comes back to the business.

Ÿ An officer was requested to respond to a call in reference to paint being thrown on a parked vehicle. One of the registered owners told him that the car was parked in the back yard near the alley, and belongs to her grandson. The vehicle had a large amount of light blue paint on the roof and running down the back; the paint was still wet to the touch and dripping off the vehicle. The reporting party gave the officer the name of a possible suspect, who is her grandson’s ex-wife. The grandson said that the only person he could think of that might have done it was a male acquaintance whose girlfriend he had driven to her residence just before midnight, and who may have gotten upset about it. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $4,000 if the paint is not able to be washed off.
