Siblings compete in fall rodeo season

Youth team ropers Katelyn Samora and Wyatt Applin are a local brother and sister team that compete in the Colorado State High School Rodeo Association.

Samora is a junior at Montezuma-Cortez High School, and Applin is a freshman at Dove Creek High School.

Team roping results from the fall season were fourth- and-12th-place finishes in Hotchkiss and Gunnison.

Samora placed eighth and 11th in breakaway roping in Cortez, and took 10th in Craig

Applin, in tie-down roping, recorded 13th, 11th, fifth, and sixth- and-ninth-place finishes in Cortez, Gunnison, Hotchkiss and Craig.

The CSHSRA spring season will begin in March with the first rodeo at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.

Katelyn and Wyatt are the children of Melissa Samora-Applin.
