Ute Mtn. rodeo concludes fall

The Ute Mountain rodeo team finished their fall season with rodeos at Hotchkiss and Craig on Sept. 17-18, and Sept. 24-25.

Placing at Hotchkiss in the junior high division on the first day for barrel racing were Cayce Lockhart, fourth, 19.191; and, Cassie Finley, 11th, 25.291. In girl’s goat tying, Finley, third, 10.420. Pole bending, Finley, sixth, 23.018. In ribbon roping, it was the team of Jace Norell and Lockhart in fourth at 18.570.

Day two barrel racing saw Lockhart, ninth, 19.368; and, Finley, 11th, 19.392. Pole bending, Finley, ninth, 36.226. The ribbon roping team of Norell and Lockhart were second in 18.270.

In the high school division, day one bull riding had Trevor Holladay, first, 65. Barrel racing, Kacey Schurr, sixth, 18.528; Whitney Finley, 20th, 19.609; and, Emma Reim, 23rd, 20.347. Girl’s breakaway roping, Whitney Finley, 10th, 4.88. Goat tying, Schurr, fourth, 9.370. Pole bending, Reim, 13th, 23.509.

Day two saddle broncs, Tanner Lockhart, first, 65. Barrel racing, Schurr, 16th, 18.710; Whitney Finley, 19th, 19.395; Reim, 20th, 20.004; and, Laycee Jones, 21st, 20.056. Goat tying, Schurr, fourth, 8.440. Pole bending, Reim, 12th, 23.318.

At Craig, day one junior high barrel racing, Finley, sixth, 20.349; and, Cayce Lockhart, ninth, 21.460. Goat tying, Finley, third, 14.170. Pole bending, Finley, seventh, 33.044. Ribbon roping, Norell and Cayce Lockhart, third, 11.00.

Barrel racing the second day had Finley, eighth, 19.817; and, Cayce Lockhart, ninth, 19.860. Goat tying, Finley, fourth, 10.420. Pole bending Finley, sixth, 21.728.

High school first day results in dally team roping, Harlie Williams and Jake Cruzan, first, 8.150; and, Paxton Segelke and Riley Van Soelen, fourth, 26.920. Bull riding, Holladay, first, 63. Barrel racing, Schurr, seventh, 18.735; Whitney Finley, 19th, 20.375; and, Reim, 20th, 21.425. Goat tying, Schurr, third, 8.20. Pole bending, Reim, 17th, 29.162.

Day two, dally team roping, Williams and Cruzan, third, 16.400. Barrel racing, Schurr, 17th, 19.224; Reim, 23rd, 20.950; and, Whitney Finley, 27th, 24.997. Goat tying, Schurr, fifth, 8.250. Pole bending, Reim, 23rd, 46.153.

At the end of the fall season, the state event leaders for the junior high division in ribbon roping are Norrell and Cayce Lockhart, fifth. Pole bending, Cassie Finley, eighth. Girl’s goat tying, Cassie Finley, third. Barrel racing, Cayce Lockhart, sixth; and, Cassie Finley, 10th.

State event leaders for the high school division in pole bending are Reim, 22nd. Goat tying, Schurr, third. Girl’s breakaway roping, Whitney Finley, 23rd. Barrel racing, Schurr, seventh. Saddle broncs, Tanner Lockhart, third. Bull riding, Holladay, second; and, Wyatt Mattausch, sixth. Dally team roping, Williams and Cruzan, fifth; and, Van Soelen and William Chumley, 22nd.

The 2012 team will resume competition in March with the first rodeo at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.
