Recently I was a patient at Southwest Memorial Hospital.
So what? you say. Dozens of patients are there today.
My husband and I are Yuma sunbirds and have enjoyed the summers in the Dolores area for more than 10 years. I am an old nurse. My husband is a retired general, cardiovascular thoracic surgeon. Because of our long and varied experiences with physicians, nurses, and hospitals, I am writing of my personal hospital admission:
I was admitted to the emergency room and within minutes, an IV had been started and blood drawn for tests.
After about 15 minutes, I was examined by the ER physician, Dr. Trimm.
Because I did not have a local physician, I was seen by Dr. Kent Aikin, the hospitalist physician. I was examined.
A surgical consult was ordered and Dr. Bledsoe arrived on a Saturday afternoon (!) and within the hour, had completed an endoscopic exam.
I spent one night in intensive care and was given two units of blood.
Stabilized, I spent one night on a med surg ward.
On Monday, I had a radioactive isotope scan in the nuclear medicine room in x-ray.
My husband and I were impressed with the equipment at the hospital, the nursing care, and the care of Dr. Aiken.
The community can be proud of its hospital.
Old nurses always remember the RN care: Thanks, Peggy, Megan, Veronica, Betsy, Dana, Stasey, and Heather. When I see you at the grocery, Ill holler hi!
