Jakob Rudosky of Montezuma-Cortez, the runner-up to Durango’s Morgan Miller, had three birdies and an eagle on the back nine Tuesday at Dalton Ranch Golf Club.

The Montezuma-Cortez High School golf team battled wind, rain and lightning delays to conclude the regular season in Durango on Monday and Tuesday.

The Panthers won Monday at Hillcrest Golf Club shooting 226, and sophomore Jakob Rudosky placed second with a 74. M-CHS won by a stroke over rival host Durango.

Junior Keith Hawkins, senior Chris Aiken and freshman Hayden Plewe each shot 74, 78 and 81 at Hillcrest.

On Tuesday at Dalton Ranch Golf Club, inclement weather and the home course Demons halted another Panthers victory. Durango shot 233 to the Panthers’ 238, and won the two-day tournament over M-CHS, 460-464. Morgan Miller was the champion medalist each day for Durango shooting 73’s for a two-day total of 146. Rudosky was second with a tournament total of 150 after shooting 76 at Dalton Ranch. But the sophomore threatened after Tuesday’s rain delay to win. Rudosky hit an eagle and three birdies when play resumed.

“A few less 3-putts, and I’m right there with Morgan,” Rudosky told the Durango Herald.

Hawkins shot 80 at Dalton Ranch to finish fourth at the tournament with a 154. Aiken shot an 82 Tuesday to come in sixth at 160. Plewe totaled 171 after shooting 90 at Dalton Ranch.

M-CHS will head to regionals next Tuesday to defend its Western Slope region championship at Rifle Creek Golf Course. A starting time has yet to be determined.
