Planning your Easter weekend?

Whether you are a hunter, gatherer or spiritual type, there’s a lot to do this weekend in the Cortez area.

Here’s a look at Easter egg hunts, church services and celebrations around town.

The big huntThe annual Rotary Easter Egg Hunt is on Saturday, April 15, on the west side of City Park off Park Street, between Montezuma Avenue and Main Street.

Areas will be marked off for youngsters ages 0-3, 4-6, and 7-10, Mayor Karen Sheek stated in an email, and kids can begin assembling at 9:45 a.m.

The signal for the start of the hunt will be sounded at 10 a.m.

This year, brightly colored plastic eggs will be filled with candy or coins. “This is a fun Easter weekend activity designed for little ones and a potential ‘Kodak moment’ for their families,” Sheek said.

In addition, parents may enroll children up to 5 years old in the Imagination Library program, which mails children a free book each month, compliments of the Cortez Rotary Club.

Don’t arrive late, Sheek said. “Once the signal is given, it doesn’t take long to scoop up the brightly colored eggs!”

Sharing the harvestThe third annual Phil’s World Easter egg hunt and fundraiser will take place on Easter Sunday, April 16, at noon.

Families should meet at the Phil’s World parking lot and trailhead, County Road 30.1. Children will hunt for eggs on the Trust Loop, then smash piñatas and receive prizes. Food and drinks served. Donations will go to the Southwest Colorado Cycling Association, which helps to maintain the Phil’s World trail system.
