For the Dolores High School baseball team, three weekend games produced plenty of solid plays and a few highlights, but no wins.

Opening the three-game slate at home against Monticello on March 30, the Bears enjoyed their best offensive performance of the season, but lost, 13-11.

“It was a good game,” Hamilton said. “We played the whole way through, and we played as a team. We gave ourselves every opportunity to win and we just couldn’t pull it out at the end.”

Following up its loss with a road game against No. 1 ranked Paonia on April 1, Dolores was unable to get a hit off of starting pitcher Jaden Miller and lost 15-0.

“Paonia is a very solid team,” Hamilton said. “They had the best pitching we’ve seen all year. We hit the ball, but we just couldn’t get it past them.”

Closing out the weekend stretch on the road against Hotchkiss on April 1, the Bears benefited from a two-run home run by sophomore Dakota Smith, but ultimately fell, 10-2.

“We had umpire problems, but there’s nothing we can do about that,” Hamilton said. “I feel like we’re playing great baseball. We just can’t seem to catch a break.”

Now 2-6 on the season, Dolores will next play on the road against Nucla on April 4 before traveling to face the Dove Creek Bulldogs on April 8.
