Fresh off of Spring Break, the Mancos High School boys’ and girls’ track teams showed few signs of rust while producing solid results at the Cedaredge Invitational in Cedaredge on April 3.

Mancos was paced by Anthony Medina, whose season-best long-jump of 19 feet, 8 ½ inches captured first place.

Also cracking the Top 5 was Caden Showalter, who placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches. The freshman also placed sixth in the discus (120 feet, 9 inches).

Other Top 10 finishers included Nic Baikie, who placed seventh in the 3,200-meter run (12:02.16); Zane Wilson, eighth in the 3,200-meter run (12:19.16); Caden Galloway, eighth in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches); and Griff Huver, eighth in the triple jump (38 feet, 6½ inches)

The team finished sixth out of 17 teams.

“Overall, we had a pretty good meet for only being a week back from spring break,” said Mancos coach Brady Archer. “Our young athletes are figuring out what it takes to compete at the high school level, and that is really going to help us as we move into the second half of our season.”

The Mancos girls were paced by senior Emma Most, who finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run (6:21.24) and the 3,200-meter run (13:46.12).

“We have a number of veteran athletes who are starting to get in shape,” said Archer.

The Mancos teams next compete April 8 at the Abel Velasquez Invitational in Ignacio.
