First National Bank, Cortez has announced that board member and President Byron Maynes will retire on April 28.

Maynes served in various capacities from 1983 to 1993 before returning as president and CEO in 2007 and has been a banker in the community for more than 34 years. He also served on numerous boards and committees, and as president of the Independent Bankers of Colorado. As president of First National, he led the bank through the Great Recession.

He was born and raised in the Cortez area and graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Steve Keetch, chairman of the First National board, praised the “countless contributions” Maynes had made to the bank saying, “The past 10 years have been years of significant growth and prosperity for our bank, thanks in large part to the leadership Byron Maynes has provided. Certainly, he has guided the bank through the difficult time experienced by banks across the nation and we are well-positioned for the future.”
