MONDAY, JULY 11

Y A deputy contacted a person in reference to a burglary. The person stated that he is the caretaker for the property, which is owned by somebody out of state. The residence is vacant and listed with a Realtor. The Realtor was contacted by another Realtor after he attempted to show the house to a potential buyer. The first Realtor went to the residence and discovered that the lockbox was missing and that the house had been entered. While inspecting the residence, the caretaker noted that a small under-cabinet light was missing, a window blind had been damaged, the hot tub was filled with water and had been used, and a decorative half-whiskey barrel with a water pump inside of it was missing. The key that had been inside of the lockbox was missing. The deputy investigated the residence for evidence and discovered fingerprints on a bathroom mirror on the main floor of the house. Photos of the scene and collected fingerprints were submitted into evidence.

THURSDAY, JULY 14

Y A deputy contacted a male subject in reference to a dog complaint. The male explained to the deputy that he is having continuing problems with his neighbor's dogs. He has called the sheriff's office in the past and complained that the dogs have continually come onto his property, harassing his livestock and dogs. He does not want to shoot the dogs and has tried to resolve the situation by talking with the neighbor, who acknowledges him and then lets the dogs out anyway. The neighbors have also let the dogs out shortly after law enforcement has talked to them in the past. The deputy went to the neighbor's residence and spoke with a female there. When asked if her dogs have been off the property, she stated that they mainly stay in the residence and are let out on occasion; when they are let out, they stay on the property and want back in the house a short time later. She stated that they do bark at the neighbor's horse and animals, but they stay on her property. When she notices that they are off the property, she calls them back. When asked if she watches the dogs while they are outside, she stated that she does not always watch them. She also stated that she has noticed that the neighbor had put up fencing that her dogs cannot get through. She said that it's hard to keep her dogs off of her neighbor's property when her property surrounds his. She was issued a summons for dog not under control.

FRIDAY, JULY 15

Y A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a car with Utah plates. The vehicle was observed failing to yield to oncoming traffic as it turned from U.S. Highway 160 onto northbound Colorado Highway 145, nearly causing a collision. The deputy noticed a large star crack on the driver's side of the windshield that impaired the driver's vision. When the deputy requested a driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance from the female driver, she stated that she did not have any of the requested documents. As the woman looked around the car for the requested documents, the car began to roll forward, nearly rolling over the deputy's foot. The deputy directed the woman to put the car in park, and as she attempted to, the vehicle rolled forward two more times. The woman said that the vehicle does not go into park, and indicated the gear shifter in the center console of the car, which was set in the neutral position. She showed the deputy several times how the shifter would not move into the park position, and was directed to put the emergency brake on and turn the car off. The driver stated that she had the requested documents, but not with her, and that the car belonged to her daughter-in-law, but she did not know her name. She then stated that the car belonged to a friend of her daughter-in-law. Dispatch identified another Utah resident as the owner of the car, and advised that the driver of the vehicle's license was under restraint/denied. She was issued a summons for driving while license under restraint/denied, failing to present evidence of insurance upon request, and for driving a defective/unsafe vehicle. The vehicle was towed.
