The Montezuma County landfill has been granted an up-cycle permit from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. The permit allows the landfill to salvage usable items for resale on-site. The program is still in the planning stages. Landfill manager Shak Powers said workers will salvage valuable items, repair them as necessary, then put them up for sale to the public in a designated area at the landfill. The project is part of a broader recycling initiative by the county to divert material from the landfill to prolong its use.
