Area track runs Mickey Dunn

Twenty schools competed at the Mickey Dunn Invitational, hosted by Grand Junction High School, to get one last track meet in before spring break at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction.

Montezuma-Cortez, Dove Creek, Dolores and Mancos high schools represented Montezuma and Dolores county on Saturday.

Delta won the boys team championship with 83 points, while Mancos, M-CHS and Dolores finished 13th, 14th and 17th with 18, 12 and 11.5 points respectively. Dove Creek did not place.

Stephen O’Connor-Sevill had a busy day for Dolores with fifth-, sixth- and seventh-place finishes in the 400-, 200- and 100-meter dash with times of 53.05, 24.16 and 11.84. Alex Berhonltz took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 42.11.

Kenny Philpot led Mancos with the high score in the high jump, recording a leap of 6-02. Branson Mitchell was ninth in the 400-meter with a finish of 53.97.

Tanner Wharton had an average discus throw of 84-00 for Dove Creek, and Cole Baughman had an average triple jump of 33-11.

Wiley Kirks had a sixth-place finish for M-CHS in the long jump, leaping 18-10.25, while Ryan Haley was eighth in the triple jump at 38-08.

On the girls side, Glenwood Springs was the champion with 105 points. Dolores was 10th (27 points), M-CHS followed in 11th (25 points) and Mancos was 17th with 11 points. Dove Creek didn’t place.

Cassie Lard led Dolores with fifth-, sixth- and eighth-place finishes in the 100-meter (13.56), triple jump (32-00.50) and 200-meter (28.30). Cydney McHenry was fifth and ninth in the 300- and 100-meter hurdles with times of 51.29 and 18.23. Michelle Kline was fifth in the 400-meter with a run of 63.89.

Kelsey Corbin and Devin Kroeker had fourth-place finishes for Mancos in the 800-meter run (2:30.57) and high jump (J4-08).

Dove Creek’s Cori Guynes and Shelbie Knuckles were 12th (19.07) and 15th (19.17) in the 100-hurdles respectively.

Carly Wolf paced M-CHS with second- and seventh-place times of 62.87 and 2:32.88 in the 400-meter and 800-meter run.

For the throwers, Ashley Lingo was second in the discus with a heave of 107-07 and Randy Elliot finished sixth at 96-02. Laura Heaton took sixth in the shot put with a lob of 32-04.

M-CHS, Mancos, Dove Creek and Dolores will be off this week for spring break.
