Rain, snow expected to start tonight on the Western Slope

A warm storm is expected to bring rain to the Cortez area and snow to the mountains this weekend.

A winter storm system will begin to impact Eastern Utah today, spreading snow to the Western Slope tonight, according to the National Weather Service

The storm system is warm and will bring rain to the lower elevations, including Cortez. Four to 8 inches of snow is expected at elevations 8,000 feet from Saturday morning until Sunday evening in areas including Telluride, Ouray, Rico and Hesperus.

On Saturday, the high temperature is expected to be near 47 degrees, with an overnight low of 28. Sunday and Monday are expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high of 45 and a low of 29.

Mountain travel may be difficult Saturday, with reduced visibility during the heaviest snowfall.
