Hospice golf tourney sees success

Hospice of Montezuma’s 10th annual benefit golf tournament was May 14, at Conquistador Golf Course. One hundred players were on hand to support Hospice of Montezuma and enjoy the break in the weather that added to a great day of golf.

The tournament is the largest annual fundraiser sponsored by Hospice of Montezuma.

“We raised over $8,800 thanks to the generous support of our community,” said Kathy Rousset, executive director of Hospice of Montezuma.

Tournament sponsors were Citizens State Bank, Cortez Journal, Dolores State Bank, Empire Electric Assoc., First National Bank of Cortez, Ertel Funeral Home, Keesee Motors, Kelly McCabe PC, Southwest Internal Medicine, Fraley & Co., Top Line Floors, Bru’s House of Color, Colorado Land Title Co., Comfort Air, Lanmark, Midland Bean Co., Notah Dineh Trading Post, Skanska USA Civil West Rocky Mountain District, Stone Sand & Gravel, and Woods Insurance Service.

Members of the winning team were Bob Nelson, Will Nelson, Russ Souza, Cindy Michaels and Mike Nelson. There were contest holes for men and women that included longest drive, closest to the pin, closest second shot, longest putt and straightest drive. Jack Hamilton was recognized for hitting a hole-in-one on hole No. 12.

Prizes were contributed by local businesses: A Cut Above, Queenie Barz/Tomboy Tools, Big O Tires, Bliss in a Basket, Body by Design, Cellar Cuts, Choice Building Supply, Toleda Cluff, Colorado Grown Nursery, Conquistador Golf Course, Cortez Chiropractic, Crystal Brite Laundry, Gary Evink Therapeutic Massage, The Farm, Holiday Inn Express, IFA Country Stores, Dana Jensen Therapeutic Massage, Kokopelli Bike & Board, David March, Millwood Junction, Pioneer Printing, Seas’nings, Shiloh Steak House, Slavens True Value Hardware, Spruce Tree Coffeehouse, Stonefish Sushi, Susie’s Hallmark Shop, T-Box Liquors, Terri’s Hair & Nails, Unique Fitness, Vectra Bank and Dick Vogel.

Proceeds from fundraisers and the support of the community help to ensure that all Hospice of Montezuma patients receive the very best of care regardless of ability to pay.
