Protect our democracy; say ‘no’ to 71

Ballots are beginning to be sent out and so I want to plead to you all to please vote “no” on Amendment 71. Here is why:

I personally know how hard it is to get an amendment on the ballot and this year alone, many did not make it due to lack of people power and signatures. Amendment 71 is proposing that 2 percent of registered voters from each of the 35 state senate districts must sign on to a proposed amendment (although this amendment did not follow that guideline.)

Colorado is a huge state, with many areas lacking financial resources and volunteer power. Many of our amendments do come from the Front Range because of this.

Some proponents of 71 think this is good for rural Colorado. I have to disagree. We are already spread thin when it comes to participation in our democracy and 71 is only another way to hinder that participation.

If we want to continue to have a voice in our already skewed democracy, please vote no on 71. There is a reason that corporations and big wigs support this amendment. Just follow the money. Thank you all for being informed voters in November.
