Two Cortez Middle School volleyball teams finished the regular season with perfect records.
Both the A team, coached by Caroline Glover, and the B team, coached by Lisa Baer, finished 8-0 in the San Juan Basin League.
They each defeated Miller, Escalante, Bayfield and Pagosa Springs twice and dropped just one set apiece the entire regular season.
Both Lady Jaguar squads finished out their seasons on Saturday in the SJBL tournament in Pagosa Springs, where the B team suffered its only loss of the year, falling to Bayfield in three sets to finish in third place.
“The hard work the B team ladies put in was evident by the high level of volleyball during all of our matches, which led our team to enter the end of season play with a record of 8-0,” Baer said in an email. “The B Team unfortunately came up short during the league tournament and lost in the first round to Bayfield.”
The A team had better luck and remained undefeated, beating Pagosa Springs in two games and then Miller in two games to claim the championship and finish the year 10-0.
“I am so proud of our CMS volleyball players,” Glover said in an email. “They were dedicated and worked hard at every practice. The girls had positive attitudes and supported each other. They enjoy the game of volleyball and it has been a rewarding experience watching them grow and become better players.”
