Small-town hospitality alive in Dolores!

My husband and I were recently traveling from our home in Durango to Telluride to forage for mushrooms (the edible kind) with some friends for the weekend. Just past the lumber mill the power steering went out on our car and a belt started making a terrible noise. We were close enough to Dolores so we decided to look for a mechanic.

I went into the coffee shop and asked if there was a mechanic in town and a nice gentleman said “no, but you should go to the General store.” It started with that conversation.

At the general store we were greeted by Tammy who made a call. While waiting for help, we ate ice cream and the owner even came out to see if he could assist. Realizing that our problem was bigger than we could handle, we waited for help to arrive.

Kenny from Lone Wolf Welding helped get our car fixed enough to make it for the weekend. (Thank you Kenny!) He even offered to come up and help again if we could not get home.

We know that our weekend would not have happened if we would have broken down anywhere else. We were so grateful for the kindness the community showed us. Small town USA hospitality is alive and well in Dolores! Thank you all!!
