KSJD’s Sunflower Theatre is screening the award-winning film “Waking the Mammoth” on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring author and scholar Craig Childs, Jonathan Till and others. Proceeds from the evening event will go to support the Sunflower’s Idea Series, which features lectures, documentaries and panel discussions at reduced or free admission during the current theater season.

The discussion features distinguished scientists and researchers. Till (curator of Edge of Cedars Museum) will chair the discussion, which will focus on the geological and biological settings, people and animals that occupied a the Four Corners area during the late Pleistocene epoch, which lasted from about 2,588,000 to 11,700 years ago.

Participants also will include archaeologists Winston Hurst and Mark Varien, geologist Ray Kenny, paleoethnobotanist Karen Adams and Childs.

The evening promises an interesting dialogue that dives into the deepest times of human history in the Four Corners and the Americas.
