Local motocross riders Alex Vestal and Evan Woody are back from the 2016 Rocky Mountain AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.

Held at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, the pair took on some the best competition in the country in their respective divisions last week.

Vestal, 14 of Cortez, made his debut at the national championship in the Super Mini 1 (ages 12-15) and Super Mini 2 (ages 13-16) divisions.

In the Super Mini 1 class, he finished 27th overall after finishing 28th, 36th and 17th in three consecutive motos.

He fared better in the Super Mini 2 division, taking 19th, 25th and 21 in three motos to finish 21st overall.

Woody, 8 of Cortez, was making his third consecutive trip to the national stage.

In 2014, he placed third in the 51cc (ages 4-6) division, and last year he finished 30th in the 51cc (ages 7-8) group.

This year, at eight years old and one of the elders in the 51cc (ages 7-8) class, Woody cranked out eighth, seventh and 24th place finishes in his three motos to place 10th overall.
