Glenn takes Montezuma in GOP primary for Senate

Republican voters in Montezuma County on Tuesday gave U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton a resounding victory over surprise challenger Alexander Beinstein, 1,778 votes to 653, according to unofficial results.

According to county Clerk and Recorder Kim Percell, 3,450 ballots were cast in the election.

Tipton, who won 73.14 percent of the votes, will face Democrat Gail Schwartz, who won the Democratic primary for the 3rd Congressional District unchallenged, with 922 votes.

In the Republican race for the U.S. Senate, Darryl Glenn won with 716 votes, or 32.22 percent of the votes. He was followed by Jack Graham, with 491 votes, or 22.10 percent. Glenn will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, who won his primary unchallenged, with 949 votes.

Rounding out the Republican primary for the Senate were Jon Keyser, with 422 votes; Ryan Frazier, 307; and Robert Blaha, 286. There were 16 write-in votes.

Republican state Rep. Don Coram won re-election unchallenged in District 58, with 1,838 votes. He doesn’t face an opponent in November.

Incumbent State Board of Education member Joyce Rankin defeated Anita Stapleton, 934 to 917 in the Republican race in the 3rd Congressional District. Winning 50.46 percent of the vote, Rankin will face Democrat Christine Pacheco-Koveleski, who was unchallenged and received 896 votes.

Republican Heidi Ganadi will face Democrat Alice Madden in the race for Regent of the University of Colorado at Large. They both ran unchallenged in their primaries. Ganadi won 1,625 votes, and Madden won 890.

District Attorney Will Furse won the Republican primary for the 22nd Judicial District unchallenged, with 1,724 votes. He doesn’t face a Democratic challenger.
