For Pets’ Sake Humane Society’s 2016-17 membership drive is underway, and the dogs and cats of Montezuma and Dolores counties need some help.

The Humane Society’s membership year begins July 1, so now is the time to join.

For Pets’ Sake is a group of volunteers working to improve the lives of companion animals in Southwest Colorado. It provides financial assistance for spaying and neutering and helps locals pay for needed veterinary care and provide pet food when times are tough. For Pets’ Sake also facilitates pet adoptions and helps lost pets find their way home.

For Pets’ Sake has no paid staff. All contributions are tax-deductible and go directly to helping the dogs and cats in your neighborhood. Operations are funded by membership dues, fundraising activities, donations and grants. This year, For Pets’ Sake has received more requests for assistance than ever before.

For your membership donation, you can find membership packets at the Cortez Public Library, or email info@forpetssakehs.org or call (970) 565-PETS/7387.

The analysis

Rocky Mountain PBS News analyzed data from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to find the estimated number of workers who were misclassified as contractors instead of employees, based on the proportion of workers in random audits who were found to be misclassified. RMPBS then used the “confidence interval for a single population mean” to estimate the amount per worker of unpaid unemployment insurance.
