ON SUNDAY, MARCH 20, The Rt. Rev. Robert J. O’Neill, 10th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, made his official visitation to St. Barnabas of the Valley in Cortez. Bishop O’Neill preached and conducted the service of Holy Eucharist for 87 members of the congregation. He also received into the Episcopal Church Helen Newman and Lisa Liljedahl. A festive potluck followed. The Diocese of Colorado spans 105,000 square miles and includes 114 congregations. St. Barnabas is the congregation most distant from the cathedral in Denver and the Office of the Bishop. Following Bishop O’Neill’s consecration seven years ago, he has visited St. Barnabas five times. He will return in the summer of 2012 when St. Barnabas will celebrate their 75th anniversary.
