For people who don’t know, here is the sales tax rate for Cortez: 2.9 percent state, 4.05 percent city of Cortez, and 0.04 percent for the hospital district. If you add that up I get 6.99 percent but some of the places in Cortez that charge sales tax are charging you and me a higher rate and I would like to know why.
You might want to check your sales slip it may only be a few pennies at a time but those pennies are yours.
