St. Barnabas Church will host a concert of the Rochester College A Cappella Chorus on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
The Michigan chorus is a tightly knit group that has an unparalleled reputation for excellence. In existence for more than 50 years, it presents more than 30 concerts annually throughout the country. The chorus will perform in Cortez as part of their annual spring tour to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where the group will attend the Ascending Voice IV conference.
The 40-member chorus will present a program spanning many years and nationalities. Styles from the Renaissance and classical periods contrast with American spirituals and contemporary choral music by such notable composers as Moses Hogan and Eric Whitacre.
The performance takes place at St. Barnabas Church, 110 W. North St, Cortez. Admission is free, though donations are accepted that will support both the Chorus and Grace’s Soup Kitchen. For more information, call 970-565-7865.
