Workshop to teach apple grafting Growing Partners of Southwest Colorado and the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project will host a hands-on apple-grafting workshop as part of the Homegrown Food Retreat from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Lookout Grange, 680 Grand Ave., Mancos.

Participants will learn the skill of grafting and take home four heritage apple trees from historic orchards in Southwest Colorado.

The workshop is $35 for Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project members and Homegrown Food Retreat attendees and $45 for all others.

Events to highlight child abuse awarenessFour Corners Child Advocacy Center in Cortez announces events to acknowledge April as Child Abuse Awareness month:

On “Go Blue Fridays” people will show their support by wearing blue and submitting photos to the Four Corners Child Advocacy Center’s Facebook page. The pinwheel is the symbol of child awareness across the nation. A pinwheel garden will be set up Friday at the Cortez Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St., Cortez. The pinwheels were created by elementary students in the community. The Kids Festival will take place April 30 at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 Roger Smith Ave., Cortez. The festival will feature screenings for children from birth to 5, activities, door prizes and entertainment.“Stewards of Children,” practical prevention training with a real-world approach, will be held April 28 at the Child Advocacy Center, 140 North Linden St., Cortez.For more information, visit http://nestcac.org.
