Filmmaker joins health tour at Sunflower
The League of Women Voters of Colorado is sponsoring a ColoradoCare Western Slope Tour with author, lecturer and filmmaker T.R. Reid.
The tour started in Grand Junction on March 21 and concludes in Cortez on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the Sunflower Theatre, 8 E. Main St. The League of Women Voters of Montezuma County and the Cortez Rotary Club will sponsor a public meeting about ColoradoCare Amendment 69, an initiative on the November 2016 Colorado ballot. Reid is the featured speaker.
T.R. Reid’s documentary film “Sick Around the World” precedes the presentation at the Sunflower Theatre at 6 p.m.
The League of Women Voters of Colorado support ColoradoCare, a resident-owned, non-governmental health-care financing system designed to ensure comprehensive and quality health care for Coloradans. By reducing administrative and other nonmedical costs, ColoradoCare would cover all residents and cost less than the current system, said Barbara Mattison, President of League of Women Voters of Colorado.
Reid’s documentary films, Washington Post reporting and 2009 book “The Healing of America” have earned national acclaim. Reid has made documentary films for National Geographic Television, PBS, and the A&E Network. His latest PBS film is “U.S. Health Care: The Good News,” which is being broadcast by PBS affiliates around the country.
Volunteers needed for solar installation
Empire Electric is partnering with GRID Alternatives to install a community solar array dedicated to subscribers qualified as low-income. The 25kW array will be at 801 N. Broadway, Cortez, and construction will take place on April 15-16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers, ages 18 and up, are needed to construct the array; however, observers are also invited.

Empire scholarship process opens April 1
Empire Electric Association is opening the Continuing Education Scholarship application process to its members on April 1.
Fifteen $1,000 scholarships available for students who are continuing their education. To be eligible, students must not have a lapse between high school and college and/or must be a previous recipient of an EEA scholarship.
The deadline to apply is June 15 at 5 p.m. Applications are available on line at www.eea.coop, or at the EEA Headquarters located at 801 N. Broadway in Cortez.
