The Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen hosts a presentation by Dolores Ranger District titled, “What’s The Status of the Calico Trail and Why Is It Closed?” on Tuesday, April 5, at the Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Road., in Cortez.

The presentation starts at 7 p.m., and dinner and drinks are available for purchase at 6:15 p.m.

Ranger Derek Padilla and recreation specialists Tom Rice and Chris Bouton will explain what led to the closure of the Calico Trail and what needs to be done to reopen it for public use.

Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen support efforts to make Calico a sustainable trail.

The San Juan National Forest Dolores Ranger District reported last summer that sections of the popular Calico Trail, six miles northwest of Rico, had been heavily damaged from use during very wet conditions.
