Turn high school into emergency center

In my opinion, the possible best use of the old Montezuma-Cortez High School building would be for a Department of Homeland Security supported electro-magnetic pulse emergency center. There is a major concern about the possibility of a horrific electro-magnetic pulse event from an anticipated massive solar flare or from explosion of a high-altitude nuclear-type EMP-device developed by a nation or terrorist group hostile to the United States.

In one or both cases, the U.S. power grid is expected to be down for as long as two years. During that period, EMP experts estimate that more than 80 percent of Americans could suffer loss of life without electricity to directly or indirectly help provide for essential needs.

The suggested EMP preparedness center would have a large reserve of potable water and alternative means to produce power. In addition, indoor/urban gardens would already be in production to produce the crops needed for survival.

This center would also have composting toilets and other means to deal with human and other wastes. Ideally, the center would also have an emergency health and alternative transportation designed to operate despite an EMP event. If the entire community supported the EMP preparedness center, Homeland Security grant funding may be available to support the start of same.
