Older job seekers face discrimination

Ageism and nepotism are alive and well in Montezuma County. Once you hit 50 no one will hire you. Even if you have the job requirements and skills, they will choose someone younger. Or, you apply at various companies that advertise for jobs but they have already hired someone from within or family members.

Just because my husband is 52 he can’t get a job. Many people move here for the pipeline and are staying but this area can’t support all of them. My husband has a son to raise and a family to support and needs a job but he keeps getting passed over because of his age.

We have lived here for 26 years and now we may have to leave because those so called employers are being ageist. Remember someday they will get our age and I hope they have to face losing your home and family because no one will hire you.
