Brandon Ward, Stevie Fuentes, Briggs Durban and Case Baughman were the four area wrestlers who finished in the top three in their respective tournaments last weekend.

Dolores junior Ward was the top finisher, going 4-0 in the 113-pound class for a first-place finish at the Page Invitational.

Ward was the only placer for the Bears, but Dustin Beltran (120) and Skieler Grooms (132) finished with .500 records at 2-2, and Austin Hackney (126) and David Schmittel (170) also picked up wins, going 1-2 on the weekend.

The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers also made the trip to Page, Arizona, and freshman Stevie Fuentes highlighted the team with a second-place finish.

At 106 pounds, Fuentes went 3-1, falling in the championship match to Page High School’s Kamron Whitewater in an 8-2 decision.

Briggs Durban (152) took third place with a 5-1 record, Josh Ramos’ (138) 3-2 record was good for fourth place, and Matthew Broughton (120) and Victor Perez (285) each finished in sixth place with 3-3 records.

While Dolores and M-CHS were in Arizona, Dove Creek and Mancos wrestled in the Screaming Eagle Invitational in Paonia.

Dove Creek senior Case Baughman took home the only medal between the two area teams, placing second in the 132-pound class.

Baughman pinned his first four opponents, and then was narrowly edged out by Keith Graham of Sedgwick County/Fleming in a 5-4 decision for the championship.

Ricky Adams was the only other Bulldog wrestler, and he finished at an even 2-2 in the 170-pound division.

The Mancos Blue Jays came home without any hardware, but they all picked up wins.

Freshman Chance Garcia (120) finished with a 3-2 record and Nick Valdez (132) was 2-2.

Jake Skinner (132), Kaleb Hargraves (145), Cameron Fury (160) and Austin Howerton (182) all finished at 1-2.
