Board seats up for election
There will be six seats up for grabs on the Dolores Town Board for the April 5, 2016 election.
Three of the appointed board members – Santiago Lopez, Isabel Boyce, and James Biard – will have to run to retain their seats. The terms of Mayor Val Truelsen and boardmembers Sandy Lauzon and Colette Heeney are up as well. Information on getting on the ballot and qualifications will be announced next month. The election will be by mail ballot.
Proposed rate hike heads to vote
In December, the town board will vote on a proposal to raise fees for 2016 to keep up with expenses and upgrades for the water and sewer plants. Town officials recommend raising the rate charged for base sewer service by six percent and the base water service by three percent.
Both plants need upgrades, and the town is applying for grants to pay for half the costs.
Officials want patrol car to stay in Dolores
Town officials have recommended that the Chevy Tahoe patrol car remain with the sheriff department’s Dolores substation to provide better vehicle coverage for the two town deputies.
Every three years, the Town of Dolores buys a new patrol car as part of their contract with the Montezuma County sheriff department for law enforcement services. That time has come, and this year a new Chevy Truck outfitted for law enforcement was purchased for the town.
The retained Tahoe is in good shape, with relatively low mileage. According to the contract, after three years, the town has the option of taking over their purchased patrol cars for the town maintenance department or to sell for a needed piece of equipment.
