The rig is to be located about a mile due east of the Sylvan school house, Men have built a camp cabin and are putting down the foundations for the rig. It is said that the hole will start with an 18-inch bit and will be drilled to a depth of s6,000 feet if necessary.

Dolores champions

The Dolores high school football team finished its most successful season in a blaze of glory when they knocked over the Cortez Panthers on their own field. Score was 20-14. Victory was double sweet in that it was the first time that a Dolores football team ever defeated a Cortez team.

Mill order

Montezuma Lumber company recently received an order for a timber 32 feet long from the oil company operating west of Ackman, some doubt being expressed as to whether the company could furnish the stick. Chas Artz, manager of the plant, said the timber was ready for delivery the next day, somewhat to the surprise of the oil company manager. No other sawmill in Colorado could have filled this order.

Rabbit slaughter

Some 30 residents of the county gathered in the Sylvan community Sunday and participated in a successful rabbit drive. There were perhaps 100 rabbits killed and they will eat no more crops. Mancos, McPhee and Dolores were well represented, one other town in the county being conspicuous by the fact there was no one from there present.
