A window at the Fiesta Theatre was shot out Saturday night, most likely from a passing car, police said.

Eight Main Street storefronts were vandalized Saturday by an unknown suspect apparently armed with a BB gun.

Cortez police responded to the Fiesta Theatre, at 23 W. Main St., for a shots-fired call at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22. While en route, dispatch advised that shots had also been fired at the Super 8 Motel, at 505 E. Main St.

Police determined that windows and doors at a total of eight businesses were damaged during the shooting spree, including Four Corners Community Bank, Main Street Brewery, Susie’s Hallmark, Rent-A-Center, Slaven’s True Value and Bru’s House of Color.

Most of the businesses were closed at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported.

Police listed the incident as an ongoing criminal mischief and reckless endangerment investigation.

A Super 8 Motel employee told police that she was assisting a customer at the front desk when she heard a loud noise, which she described as a “bang.” A single BB was recovered from the scene. Two windows and a screen, valued at a total of $400 were damaged.

A bartender at Main Street Brewery also reported hearing a loud noise, described like a ping. Police noted a single window was damaged and that several customers were inside when the shooting occurred.

During the incident, patrons were also inside the Fiesta Theatre, where a window valued at $800 was shattered.

Damage estimates at the remaining businesses have not been received, according to police.

Police have yet to report whether any arrest has been made in connection to the case.
