Put the unfortunate incident behind us

Dear Editor:

Now that the special recall election is over, I would like to respond to a letter to the editor in the April 28 edition of the Journal. Von R. Flaugh alluded, by innuendo, that I and councilman Bob Archibeque, who were not on the city council ballot, sympathized with the recall proponents’ agenda and were their behind-the-scenes co-conspirators.

I believe the reason we were not on the recall ballot is due to the fact that we were not even members of the city council when the Tucker Lane extension project was voted on, and that is why the proponents of the recall effort did not include us on the ballot. Why Mr. Flaugh filed to note this is beyond my understanding. There was nothing sinister as insinuated by Mr. Flaugh.

I have now started my second-year of a two-year term as a Cortez city councilman and, as many of you know, I have listened to your concerns and answered your questions as straightforward as I knew how. I will continue to do so, and it is my sincere desire to put the unfortunate recall incident behind us so that we can now get on with city government.
