Bears come up short against John Mall, 25-3

The Dolores Bears lost to the John Mall Panthers on Friday, 35-10.

Senior Tommy Nelligan’s 35-yard field goal in the first quarter were the only points the Bears could manage in the first half, trailing 25-3 at half.

Josh McCoy ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Bears held John Mall scoreless in the final frame, but the Panthers’ 25 points in the first half and another score in the third quarter were enough to hold on for the win.

The Bears rushed for 175 yards – with McCoy leading the way with 127 yards – and quarterback Jalen Balderrama passed for 144 yards. But the Panthers picked off two passes and rushed for 343 yards to control the game.

Forrest Pejsa again led the Bears defense with 16 total tackles, and Talon Zwicker and Balderrama chipped in 13 tackles and 11 tackles, respectively.

Dove Creek gets a forfeit from Del Norte

Dove Creek got an easy win on Friday, 2-0, after Del Norte forfeited the game because they did not have enough players to compete.

The Bulldogs move to 5-1 on the season and next take on the Sanford Indians (2-5).

The Mancos Blue Jays also found themselves on the winning end of a forfeit, when Shiprock Northwest was unable to play in their scheduled game on Friday due to players being ineligible.
