I loved the story about Mama’s Deli (Journal, April 23.) Mae Prunty was my grandmother. My father, her son, had not seen her or knew where she was since he was about 9 years old. I did a genealogy search and found her.

We went to Salida to meet her when she was 92. We knew her as Jessie Mae Henson. She said her nephew was Jim Henson of the Muppets.

Salida was exciting. Seeing those paintings of customers on the walls was so fun. She used to bake pies for the soldiers. She was a character.

Mae was once married to Claude Geyer, my grandfather. They never divorced. She left my father as a baby to be with Neil Prunty. Her whereabouts were a mystery. Seeing your article brought a lot of memories back to me. I never met Neil Prunty. They never had children. The 1930s were interesting times.

I loved Salida, what a lovely town.
