The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers (1-6) dropped their fifth straight game on Friday to the undefeated Pagosa Springs Pirates (7-0).
Junior Manual Martinez scored the Panthers’ lone goal in the 7-1 loss.
Head coach Sean Fitzgerald remained optimistic, but admitted that the team’s mistakes led to opportunities for Pagosa Springs.
“There were a lot of great positives,” he said. “A lot of negatives still, and mistakes constantly. It’s just a matter of putting 80 minutes together.”
The Panthers will take on Ridgway (1-3) for the second time this season in an away matchup on Friday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.
In their previous game against Ridgway in early September, the Panthers lost by a slim margin, 3-2.
“It should be good,” Fitzgerald said of the upcoming game. “It should be pretty close again. We’ll see. Hopefully we can fix a couple mistakes and win one.”
