M-CHS tennis falls to Paonia

The Montezuma-Cortez tennis team hosted Fruita Monument on Friday in its second match of the season.

Although the Panthers’ scores improved from their first meet in Paonia, they fell to the Wildcats 0-7.

Playing No. 1 and No. 2 two singles, sophomore Rory Walker and senior Cody Canzona each lost in two sets.

Walker dropped each set 2-6, and Canzona lost 5-7 and 2-6.

Juniors Rowdy Veach and Billy Broughton represented the Panthers as the No. 1 doubles team, and were swept in two sets (0-6, 0-6).

Playing No. 2 doubles, junior Noah Porter and senior Grant Gasaway had better luck scoring, but still lost the match in two sets (1-6, 2-6).

The Panthers will next compete in the Delta Tournament this weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19.
