According to a recent Cortez Journal article, 11.1 percent of Southwest Colorado citizens are still without health insurance even under the Affordable Care Act. Now imagine a health care payment system that would cover all Coloradans for life, with no decrease in quality of care, with freedom to choose one’s own provider, and with dental care, at a cost at least one-third lower than current premiums.

This scenario could become reality if we put Initiative 20 Colorado Care on the ballot and then pass it next year. Colorado Care would be independent of government agencies. It would be a cooperative owned by all of us. Financed by a Health Care Premium Tax and Medicaid and Afordable Care Act waiver funds, Colorado Care is projected to save up to $6 billion a year through business efficiency. The average individual would save $515 on health care expenses yearly.

For more information about Colorado Care, go to www.ColoradoCareYES.co. Please sign the petition to put Initiative 20 on the ballot before Oct. 15. There will be a booth with petitions available at the Mancos Balloon Festival.
