Dolores cross-country runners laced up for their first race of the season on Wednesday at the Loyd's Lake Classic at Monticello.

Head coach Nick Kohler said that being the team's first meet, he was pleased with the results.

Tyler Cutrone stood out for the middle school team, placing third out of 104 competitors and improving his time from last year by over a minute.

Zander Eichner and Tim Wyman also ran well for the younger squad, finishing 15th and 20th.

Maya Lamunyon was the lone middle school girl runner, and her finishing time was nearly two minutes faster than last year, earning her a 71st-place finish.

The high school group also impressed Kohler, with senior Teegan Hite finishing in 5th in her first ever cross-country race for the Bears.

The boys team was led by a trio of freshman, Brennan Hite, Phillip Hufman and Cael McHenry.

Hite placed 17th (19:40), Hufman in 24th (20:09) and McHenry 38th (21:24).

"I was very pleased with our varsity boys," Kohler said in an e-mail on Monday. "As I had hoped, the three freshman ran great."

The Bears will be back in action on Friday, September 11th at the Southwest Sunset XC Classic in Durango.
