The Montezuma-Cortez golf team played with only two golfers in three meets last week.
With school starting last Wednesday, most M-CHS golfers decided to focus on their schoolwork and miss the meets.
However, sophomores Luke Gross and Cristoffer Rudosky made the trips to Grand Junction on Tuesday, Delta on Wednesday and Montrose on Thursday.
“It’d have been nice for us to take that full team,” said head coach Micah Rudosky. “But I understand with the kids starting school.”
At Tiera Rado on Tuesday, Rudosky finished in sixth with a 76 and Gross shot a 104. Both golfers shot higher on Wednesday at Devil’s Thumb, with Rudosky finishing at 78 and Gross at 108. But on Thursday at Cobble Creek, they each shot their best scores of the week, with Rudosky finishing second in the class 4A division and fourth overall with a 72, and Gross ending the day with a 101.
The Panthers will travel with the entire team on Thursday for a meet against Pagosa Springs, and they are continuing to work to improve their scores.
“Starting yesterday we worked a lot on our short game,” Rudosky said. “The guys are only going to hit so many greens. And it’s how they manage from that point on. If we can get a little bit better around the greens, those scores will come down.”
