Deacon Francisco Javier Diaz Moreno will be ordained a Theatine Catholic priest at St. Margaret Mary’s Church on Montezuma Avenue at 5 p.m. on Sept. 14 by Bishop Emeritus, Arthur Tafoya, of New Mexico.

Deacon Moreno chose the date of Sept. 14, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is the 491st birthday of the Theatine Order founded by St. Cajetan in Rome. Years earlier while studying for the Diocesan priesthood in Texcoco, Mexico, he met a Theatine priest and was attracted to their community living. So, he transferred to their seminary in Denver. Later, he was sent to Rome to complete his Master’s Degree.

Currently, Deacon Moreno is the assistant Novice Master to Father Heriberto with the 13 seminarians studying at San Luis, Colorado.

Other factors precipitating this event are: first, Bishop Steven Berg of Pueblo has a scheduling conflict with the retreat of the diocesan priests in Pueblo. Secondly, the Order would like to acknowledge its gratitude, by sharing the pageantry, with the parishioners.

The people here have been unusually supportive of priestly and religious vocations and are invited to attend this memorable event.
