The Montezuma-Cortez volleyball team took third place in the consolation bracket of the Glenwood Tournament over the weekend.

After losing to Steamboat Springs and Vista Peak in two games on Friday, the Panthers bounced back on Saturday to beat Rifle in two games. Then, in a rematch against Vista Peak, the Panthers went three games, before falling 2-1, and finishing third in the consolation bracket.

“One thing that I really liked is that the girls were really scrappy,” said M-CHS head coach Andi Pickens. “We were by far the smallest team there, but that didn’t discourage them.”

The Panthers next prepare for the Delta Tournament this weekend.

“We need to work on our unforced errors,” Pickens said. “Like missing serves or hits that are going out or going in the net. But overall, they did really good, and they communicated really well – which is a good thing.”
